Five tips for choosing the right neighborhood in Paris

Paris is a complex city. This cannot be stressed enough! From an outsider's point of view, the French capital seems like a modern-day utopia filled with luxuries, beautiful sights, and great food. Who wouldn't want to relocate to Paris with all of this to look forward to?

But when you actually get there, you'll see that the city, in its entirety, isn't exactly what you thought it was. It's even more pressing when you have to choose a neighborhood to settle down in. In this part of the process, there are five things you need to consider: your safety, the vibe, nearby facilities, how close your workplace is, and accessibility of public transport.

Is It A Safe Area?

The city shares the same problems with other capital cities, whereas since there are more people here, there are also more crimes committed. With that said, however, Paris is generally safe. You just have to be more careful when you're outside. Be especially careful of pickpockets around metro stations and crowded areas. You never know when you might be targeted. As for which neighborhoods to avoid, you might want to avoid the northern parts of Paris. Namely, the 18th and 19th arrondissements.

Although they're safe during the day, it's a different story come nightfall. The city red-light district is also located within these areas of Paris.

Where Do You Work?

It's only natural that you'd want to live near your workplace, right? If you work in the Batignolles area, for instance, it won't make sense if you choose to settle down in Bercy. It's practically on the other end of the French capital! Remember that Paris is a bustling city with a population of approximately 11 million people.

If you have to deal with at least a tenth of them on your way to work, you'll always end up late. So it's better to choose an area near where you work. It's better if it's in the exact same neighborhood!

Is Public Transport Accessible?

In relation to going to work, you also have to make sure that your place is accessible through public transport. It bears noting that most districts in Paris have their own metro stations, bus stops, and the like.

So as far as public transport is concerned, there's very little for you to worry about. It more depends on where in the neighborhood you choose to stay.

Of course, it's better to live near these stations and stops, especially if you commute regularly. But then there's also the issue of the notice that comes with the territory. These places aren't exactly the most peaceful.

What's The Vibe?

After you've ensured that you're safe, you also have to check the vibe. It makes all the difference since the many neighborhoods in Paris are pretty different from each other.

Montmartre, for instance, is a lively district full of young people and families. It has a healthy balance of suburban and urban. The Champs-Élysées, on the other hand, is one of the more affluent districts in the city. It's all about luxury here. And if you're more into a lively nightlife scene, Le Marais is probably more your vibe!

What are The Nearby Facilities?

The nearby facilities have to come into play when you're deciding on where to live in Paris too. Let's say you're a night owl, the kind where you always eat a midnight snack. Staying in a place with many nightlife restaurants, or probably just plenty of convenience stores, will suit you more.

Or what if your luxury apartment in Paris doesn't have its own laundry area? You'd be surprised at how common this is in the French capital! For this, it'd be better for you to live in a neighborhood with one, two, or more laundromats, right? It's all about your comfort and convenience!

Ce qu’il faut retenir :
Choosing the right neighborhood in Paris matters a lot, especially if you're relocating here. It makes a world of difference when you start your new life in the French capital.
