The 8th arrondissement

Home to the iconic Champs Elysées, the 8th arrondissement is one of the most central districts of Paris. This is the most famous avenue in the French capital, so it makes sense that the area surrounding it would be among the most affluent in the city.

Luxury is the name of the game in the 8th arrondissements. Rue Saint-Honoré, for example, is a world-famous shopping street that offers the biggest fashion brands in the world. The home of haute couture, this is one of the places that establish Paris as the fashion capital of the world. Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne are also well-known among fashion lovers and luxury connoisseurs. These are the best streets to get the finer things in life.

As far as iconic landmarks are concerned, no one can miss the Arc de Triomphe. Though it's technically located in two other arrondissements, it's most famously part of the 8th thanks to the Champs Elysées. It's also on this avenue where important holidays are celebrated. There's the laying down of the wreath on Bastille Day and the glorious fireworks display on New Year's Eve, to name a few.

Of course, you can't miss Élysée Palace as well. As the official residence of the president of France, it's the seat of power in the entire country. The grandeur continues with the ever-imposing L'église de la Madeleine and the Grand Palais, each popular tourist attraction in their own right.

In terms of its location, the 8th arrondissement borders with the 1st arrondissement, the 2nd arrondissement, the 7th arrondissement, the 9th arrondissement, the 16th arrondissement, and the 17th arrondissement.
Transport

Since it's a pretty central part of the city, public transport is no problem in the 8th arrondissement. In fact, many metro and Réseau Express Régional lines go through this district. The metro lines 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 14 pass through here while the latter (RER) has lines A and C circulate the area too.
The RER A travels to La Défense Business District, Disneyland Paris, and Marne-la-Vallée
The RER D travels to Melun, Essonnes, and the Stade de France

Schools

Considering the fashionable nature of the 8th arrondissement, it's no surprise that the area had a handful of fashion schools. These include Istituto Marangoni, Passaporte Fashionista, and the Paris School of Luxury. These institutions teach both the design and the business sides of the industry. And since the district is also where the French president lives, it's natural that the École Militaire is located here as well.

Offices

The 8th arrondissement is home to many government institutions and foreign embassies. As already mentioned, Élysée Palace, the official presidential residence, is located here. As is the Ministry of the Interior, the headquarters of many CAC40 companies, prominent financial institutions, and foreign embassies. And quite famously, Avenue Montaigne is home to the headquarters of Christian Dior, one of the biggest fashion houses in the world.

Real Estate

Despite how busy the 8th arrondissement tends to get, the neighborhoods here remain largely quiet and residential. The Monceau District and Rome neighborhood, for example, suit families with little kids. The areas are fairly quiet almost suburban-like in their calmness. The area near Gare Saint-Lazare train station, on the other hand, tends to attract the young, single, and childless with its lively nightlife scene and hip hotspots.

As a result, the luxury apartments here tend to be on the more expensive side. Whether they’re for rent or for purchase, the real estate prices here stay within the five to even seven figures. Oftentimes beyond too!
