The 6th arrondissement of Paris

Your idealized view of Paris is probably thanks to the 6th arrondissement. Home to the affluent Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, this was where café society thrived back in the early 20th century. From literary figures and legendary artists to intellectuals that changed society, many of the Parisian elite would hang out in this district. And the area is still as dreamy as ever!

Located on the Left Bank of the Seine River, the 6th arrondissement is the quintessential Parisian district. Take Boulevard Saint-Michel, for example. Lined with many first-class restaurants and top-notch hotspots, this street is part of the reason why Paris is renowned as the "Food Capital of The World." If there's ever a place where taking a foodie tour is an absolute must, it's this one!

Then there's the aforementioned Saint-Germain-des-Prés, one of the most popular neighborhoods in Paris. With its old-world charms yet trendy hotspots, the area maintains a great balance between the old and the new. For the former, don't miss your chance to dine in the historic literary cafes, Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots. These centuries-old hotspots once served the likes of Ernst Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and more.

Want to relax? Spend your day in the Luxembourg Gardens, one of the city's beloved parks. With its beautiful flowerbeds, well-manicured lawns, and stunning fountain, the park provides the grandeur of Paris with its signature sunny atmosphere. It's perfect for a romantic picnic with your partner, a family day with your loved ones, or simply hanging out with your friends.

In terms of its location, the 6th arrondissement borders with the 1st arrondissement, the 4th arrondissement, the 5th arrondissement, the 7th arrondissement, the 14th arrondissement, and the 15th arrondissement.
Transport

Public transport isn't a problem here in the 6th arrondissement. The area is pretty popular, after all. Many commuters come and go here, made easier by the various metro and Réseau Express Régional lines. For the metro, the 4, 6, 10, 12, and 13 lines pass by here. As for the RER, you can take the B and C lines from here to other parts of the city.
The RER B travels to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
The RER C travels to Versailles and Orly Airport

Moreover, the district is known for its many bike lanes too. Hence, you’ll see a lot of cyclists in this part of the city.

Schools

Part of why the 6th arrondissement is busy is the myriad of academic institutions located here. They include École des Mines de Paris, FERRANDI Paris, École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Institut français de presse (IFP) - Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, and L'IPAG Business School, among many others.

Offices

Perhaps part of how the 6th arrondissement has retained its old-world charms and atmosphere is the fact that not a lot of big companies have set up shop here. The only business that has its headquarters in the area is PRO BTP.

Real Estate

Considering the immense popularity, the real estate market in the 6th arrondissement is highly in-demand. In fact, about 80% of local buyers and 20% of international buyers continue to express interest in purchasing properties in the district. And even when it comes to renting, ranging from single students to full-blown families, many are interested in finding a place here. As such, it's also no surprise that real estate in this part of the city tends to skew higher in terms of prices.
