The 4th arrondissement
The 4th arrondissement of Paris is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious districts on the right bank. It's an extremely popular area for tourists and locals alike, filled with all sorts of exciting hotspots, awesome attractions, and a bevy of luxury homes.
Though the 4th arrondissement is mostly known for the Marais neighborhood, there's more to the district than that. This area is also home to half of Île de la Cité and the entire Île Saint Louis. It's also the center of the city, marked by the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in all its monumental Gothic glory. This famous church alone makes the 4th arrondissement a definite must-see, especially for those visiting Paris for the first time.
There's no doubt, however, that most people go to the 4th arrondissement to check both the famous Marais district. What's great about this neighborhood is that it gives you the best of both worlds. Its cobblestone streets and centuries-old buildings offer up that signature Parisian old-world charm but the popular restaurants, trendy cafes, and chic boutiques uphold its contemporary prominence. The area is also known as the home of the city's Jewish community. As such, you'll find their culture all throughout the arrondissement.
As far as attractions go, you can't overlook the Centre Pompidou, home of the National Museum of Modern Art. The Maison de Victor Hugo, on the other hand, is the writer's former home and now serves as a museum dedicated to his legacy. And let's not forget about the Shoah Memorial, the museum that highlights Jewish history during the Second World War. These and more are what many people check out in the 4th arrondissement.
Location-wise, the 4th arrondissement borders with the 1st arrondissement, the 3rd arrondissement, the 5th arrondissement, the 8th arrondissement, the 11th arrondissement, and the 12th arrondissement.
Transport
Since it's a pretty central part of Paris, you'll find it easy to navigate public transport in the 4th arrondissement. Many metro lines pass by here, which include lines 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, and 14. The Réseau Express Régional (RER) also services the area, specifically lines A, B, and D. And considering the nature of the district, there are many bicycle paths laid down here as well.
Thanks to the RER, you can get from the 4th arrondissement straight to places that are beyond the city center of Paris.
The RER A travels to La Défense Business District, Disneyland Paris, and Marne-la-Vallée
The RER B travels to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
The RER D travels to Melun, Essonnes, and the Stade de France
Schools
The 4th arrondissement is also home to many prestigious schools and other educational institutions. Most notably, Saint-Merri Renard, one of the most prominent and biggest public schools in the city, is located here. It's only a stone's throw away from Centre Pompidou. There's also IPESUP, a fine cram school known for preparing students who intend to take the competitive entrance exams of the Grandes Écoles universities. Not to mention the École Nationale de la Magistrature (ENM), Ecole Paris Marais, and the Sport Business Academy.

Offices
Ironically, even though the 4th arrondissement is a popular and often busy district, there aren't a lot of headquarters located here. At least, not compared to the other arrondissements nearby. The only businesses that have their headquarters here are the Transalliance holding company and the Blablacar transportation app.
Real Estate
Many of the homes in the 4th arrondissement center around the churches here. As such, the residences near Église Saint-Merri, Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis, or Église Saint-Gervais make up their own respective “mico-districts.”
And in terms of prices, the area has a pretty wide range. From studio apartments that are fairly affordable to luxury penthouses that cost thousands of Euros to rent (and possibly millions to purchase), the real estate market in the 4th arrondissement reflects its overall diversity.
