The 20th arrondissement

The 20th arrondissement is another of the French capital's bohemian quarters. Formerly the city's industrial heartland, it now bursts with youthful energy and that signature Parisian joie de vivre! There aren't exactly any world-famous monuments and landmarks located here, but tourists who are lucky enough to stumble upon this district will discover a unique and idyllic side to Paris.

The area boasts a whole host of different neighborhoods, each more charming than the next. There's the Belleville district, for example, which houses part of the city's Asian quarter. As such, many of the foodie hotspots here serve such delicious Eastern cuisine. Any foodie would do well to check this place out! The neighborhood is also home to Parc de la Belleville, a beautiful green space perched atop a hill. With its lush greeneries and well-curated gardens, the park offers a serene escape from the bustling metropolis. The views up here are pretty spectacular too!

Interestingly enough, one of the most famous “green spaces” in the 20th arrondissement—as well as in all of Paris—isn't actually a garden or park. Instead, it's a cemetery. More specifically, the beloved Père Lachaise Cemetery on Rue du Repos. It's famous for a lot of things. Firstly, it's the largest cemetery in the city, spanning 44 hectares (110 acres). Secondly, it serves as the final resting place of several historic figures including Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, and Frédéric Chopin. And third, the cemetery also provides a serene retreat for those who just want to spend some time in solace. In a way, it's even a great date spot too.

You also shouldn't miss Cité Leroy and Cité de l'Ermitage, two streets in the 20th arrondissement filled with botanical bliss. Lined with trees and plants, they almost don't look like they're part of the French capital. Walking through these streets will like you're exploring the beautiful countryside of France. Absorb their somewhat provincial charms because you won't see any other street quite like these ones in the rest of the city.

In terms of location, the 20th arrondissement with the 10th arrondissement, the 11th arrondissement, the 12th arrondissement, and the 19th arrondissement.
Transport

Despite its location on the western edge of Paris, public transport is still pretty accessible in the 20th arrondissement. In fact, metro lines 1, 2, 3, 3bis, 6, 9, and 11 all run this district. As well as the Réseau Express Régional (RER) line A too. Of course, you can also expect a good number of cabs and buses to pass by this area as well. Commuting to and from this part of the city is barely a problem!
The RER A travels to La Défense Business District, Disneyland Paris, and Marne-la-Vallée

Schools

The district also boasts two prestigious schools. They are Ecole Supérieure d'Architecture des Jardins E.S.A.J and ICI - ICARE - Management en Hôtellerie-Restauration de Luxe. Though not the most famous educational institution in the city, they still are great schools that have produced graduates who have gone on to succeed in their respective fields.

Offices

There's only really one company that has set up its headquarters in the 20th arrondissement. It's the "Caisse Nationale d'assurance Maladie" (CPAM) or the National Fund for Health Insurance. They're in charge of ensuring that people, both in Paris and the rest of France, have proper healthcare coverage.

Real Estate

As one of the quieter parts of the city, the 20th arrondissement would typically be one of the best places for all sorts of people to live in. It's already a largely residential area as well. However, the current state of its real estate market has yet to catch up. There are many great properties here as well as a good number of people renting or purchasing them, but for the most part, other arrondissements still prove to be more popular in the market.
