The 10th arrondissement

If you thought that Paris was always about gloss and glamour, think again. Though the French capital is the country's lap of luxury in many ways, it's also home to many different kinds of people. Namely, the working class. And you'll find them in the quaint and quite idyllic 10th arrondissement.

Compared to the other districts, the 10th arrondissement doesn't have any famous tourist spots to offer. For some, that's the best thing about it. Though you might not see any iconic sights in this district, you'll get to enjoy some peace and quiet instead. Think family-friendly communities with kids playing around and humble mom-and-pop stores lining the streets. Not to mention a few lively areas where university students and young professionals hang out when they're on break or after school/work. They frequent the chic bistros and cafes in Paris.

It's within this environment that Canal St. Martin provides the perfect Parisian scenery. Lined with historic houses and lush trees, it's arguably the most beautiful part of the 10th arrondissement. It's the perfect place for a brisk stroll, a family day outdoors, or perhaps even a chill date with your special someone.

In terms of its location, the 10th arrondissement border with the 2nd arrondissement, the 3rd arrondissement, the 9th arrondissement, the 11th arrondissement, the 18th arrondissement, the 19th arrondissement, and the 20th arrondissement.
Transport

You can say that the 10th arrondissement is the gateway of Paris to the rest of the world. Or rather, the rest of France and of Europe, at least. This district houses two important train terminals, Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. They serve railway systems that travel beyond the city.

Gare du Nord, the largest train station in Europe, serves trains that travel to many countries and cities. They include Amiens, Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Lille-Flandres, Cologne, Senlis, Arras, Creil, Köln, Saint-Quentin, Massy, and Germany.

In a similar way, Gare de l'Est also welcomes trains that go to and from various European destinations. Among them are Reims, Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Château-Thierry, Luxembourg, Nancy, Troyes, Berlin, Metz, Munich, Châlons-en-Champagne, Stuttgart, and the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

As for local public transport, many metro and Réseau Express Régional (RER) lines also pass by here. You can take the metro lines 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 11 as well as the RER lines B, D, and E from this district.
The RER B travels to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
The RER D travels to Melun, Essonnes, and the Stade de France
The RER E travels to Rosa Parks, Pantin, Noisy le Sec, Bondy, Chelles, and Magenta

Schools

Apart from its quiet and relatively slow-paced lifestyle, the schools here are part of why the 10th arrondissement is perfect for families to settle down in. There's the Bossuet Notre Dame, for example, which is the very first high school established in Paris. École de Commerce Paris - ICD Business School and the INSEEC Grande École Paris also have campuses in the area.

Offices

This part of the city is far from what many would call a "business district." However, there are still a couple of businesses that have their headquarters located in this arrondissement. They are Villeroy and Boch, the SNCF Network, and Columbus Café & Co., among many others.

Real Estate

Considering how largely residential the 10th arrondissement is, the real estate market here is pretty wide. From big families with little kids and childless newlyweds to university students and single young adults, many kinds of residents are interested in staying in the area. As a result, the types of properties available are just as diverse. You'll find many multi-bedroom penthouses as well as compact solo apartments in this part of the city. They also range from expensive to affordable too.
